Seeing the big picture: McKendree’s win against St. Joseph’s

BY GRANT RIGGS Staff Writer At first glance, McKendree’s football game against St. Joseph’s College (SJC) on Oct. 15 seemed like a relatively unimportant game for the Bearcats. Despite it being Homecoming, McKendree was coming off of two straight conference losses and looked to be out of the race for the GLVC conference title. If McKendree would have lost this game to SJC, who was 3-1 in conference play before Saturday, it would have dropped their overall record to 3-4 and 1-3 in the conference, thus effectively ending McKendree’s hopes of winning conference. All throughout the season, McKendree has faced adversity. In the game against SJC, they were tested once more in the final minutes of the game. Football Update

BY KYLE FRANKE Staff Writer Until their loss this Saturday at the hands of first place University of Indianapolis, the McKendree Bearcats Football team had won 10 games in a row dating back to last year. Prior to the 10-game win streak was a 0-6 start to the season, a season in which they had four preseason All-Americans to start the year. Ferris State handed the Bearcats a 75-15 beating in the very first game of the year. “It wasn’t the start we were looking for, starting the season with a loss like that just kind of demoralized us,” said wide receiver Mike Thompson.
