McKendree Named to Top 25 Colleges in Illinois List

By Jack MacLean, Copy Editor

McKendree University has been named one of the 25 Best Colleges in Illinois by College Choice, an independent online publication which publishes rankings and reviews on colleges across the country.  The 25 Best Colleges in Illinois, released on February 1, tabs McKendree University at number 19 overall, making it the 5th best private liberal arts college on the list. University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign headlines the list.

“With the number of high-quality colleges and universities in the state, it’s quite a distinction to be named to the Top 25 Best in Illinois,” stated Christian Amondson, Managing Editor of College Choice. “McKendree University achieved this by offering great academic programs to its students in a wide variety of fields – impressive, given its size. At the same time, McKendree works to keep its private school education accessible to as many students as possible, and offers impressive return on investment in the long run.”

“We are delighted to be included on the 2017 Best Colleges in Illinois list,” said Dr. Christine Bahr, Provost and Dean of McKendree University. “Providing a high-quality educational experience at an affordable price, we are pleased to know that McKendree is recognized by College Choice as one of the best institutions in the state.”

The ranking methodology used by College Choice utilizes aggregate data from several publicly accessible sources and is based on both academic standards, such as acceptance rates and endowment size, and the return on investment, taking into account graduate earnings compared to tuition rates.

College Choice offers rankings for colleges based on affordability, degree programs and even “Colleges with the Happiest Freshman,” as well as many other lists. They also provide resources for students to find and select schools that best fit their needs.

McKendree can also be found on the U.S. News & World Report list of Best Regional Universities Midwest and Best Value schools, where it ranks #74 and #35, respectively.

  1. We recently made a college visit to McKendree. I was disappointed to say the least. I am not sure where the college leaders get the idea that it is affordable.
