Hidden Figures: A Film with History, Science and Female Empowerment

By Paxton Cohoon, Contributing Writer The film Hidden Figures was released on December 25, 2016 and has grossed $2.9 million from only 25 different locations since then. The weekend of its release, the film made $1 million more than estimated and beat out Rogue One by .8 million. Over the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday weekend, the film sold 20.5 million tickets in North American theaters. However, its success did not stop there. This film has been nominated for 63 awards and has won 26, one of which being the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by Cast in a Motion Picture. What makes this historical comedy-drama so popular is the inside scoops on how three African American female mathematicians helped one man orbit earth in the 1960s. These women were Katherine G. J...

Al Alone: Introduction & Issue One

By Benjamin Richter, Cartoonist/Contributing Writer Series Intro Earth looks very different from 250 million miles away. Growing up near Mars, Al never imagined traveling far from home.  In an exploration of a surrounding galaxy, Al's spaceship collides with a satellite and sends his ship spiraling towards our planet.  In this new world, Al attempts to make the best of the situation.  Watch all of his experiences among human society unfold in Al Alone by B-RICHstudios. Al Alone is a series of comics that will be used to show the good, the bad, and everything in between.  I want the emotions to be real and the humor to be funny.  Growth and societal critique are two ideas I plan to utilize as the strip continues.  I truly hope that readers enjoy and want more of this series.  Al Alone is ...

Although many activities and competitions, such as Bearcat Games and Chalk the Walk, started Monday for registered student organizations, Friday night started the fun for the remainder of campus. The Campus Activities Board (CAB) held a headphone dance on campus. During this time, students danced together while individually listening to music throu...
