Amesgiving: McKendree’s Annual Thanksgiving Feast

Due to Thanksgiving break, McKendree celebrates Thanksgiving the Thursday before the actual holiday. This celebration is an annual feast known as Amesgiving, as it is held in Ames Dining Hall. Amesgiving is a long-held tradition on campus. Ames Dining Hall was built in 1968 and dedicated to the university’s first president: E. R. Ames. The first Amesgiving was held in 1995. Since then, the staff at Ames have continued to prepare a festive meal for students every year. McKendree Goes Mobile with the MyMcK App

The app was a project of Mckendree’s Student Government Association. The app is free and convenient for students as it provides direct links to materials like Pulse, Self Service, eforms, and online meal services. Users are available to view upcoming shows at the Hettenhausen Center for the Arts and book tickets via the app. Students and faculty are able to report incidents and access emergency numbers. The business was the GLVC Championship, and they took care of it! Dubbed the queens of the GLVC, the team flew to Northern Michigan University in Marquette, Michigan last week to play in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. McKendree welcomes students of all faiths and encourages them to grow and continue their spiritual journeys. On campus, Bothwell Chapel serves as an excellent resource for students to do just that. This semester, students met in the lower level of the chapel for an event called Come to the Table. Every first and third Thursday of the month, students celebrate their faith in this student-led praise and worship session. Lebanon’s Witches’ Night Out: Halloween Fun on the Red Brick Street

Every year, a few days before Halloween, Witches’ Night Out is hosted in downtown Lebanon. The event showcases many local businesses and vendors. Patrons wear costumes and enjoy Halloween festivities. Witches’ Night Out 2023 Opening Ceremony This year, the night began with an opening ceremony on Brick Street. Organizers cast a spell, mixed potions, and announced the beginning of the night as the music started to play. Tricks, Treats, and Tours: Halloween at McKendree

By Madison Bonner, Writer Photography by Madison Bonner On Monday, October 30th, McKendree celebrated Halloween with two events: a Haunted Campus Tour and Trick-or-Treat! Despite the freezing weather, they had great turnouts. Students braved the cold to dress up - and dress warm - for both events. The first event, McKendree’s Haunted Campus Tour, was hosted by McKendree’s History Club. This year marks its second annual occurrence. On this tour, students learned about McKendree’s past and its suspected hauntings. As the oldest college in Illinois, there is an abundance of spooky stories and fun facts to explore!
