“My name is Oliver Queen. For five years I was stranded on an island with only one goal-survive. Now, I will fulfill my father’s dying wish—to use the list of names he left me and bring down those who are poisoning my city. To do this, I must become someone else. I must become something else.”
The series, Arrow, opens with a news report saying that son of billionaire, Robert Queen,
who was thought to have been dead, has been rescued from being stranded on an island in the Pacific after his father’s cruise ship, The Queen’s Gambit, sank five years previous. Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) has gone through hell and back while on that island. He learned about things he never thought he would have to learn. Upon his return home to Starling City, he not only starts his renewed life as a citizen but births a second identity: The Green Arrow.
Based off of DC Comics Green Arrow, the CW’s Arrow follows former party-boy Oliver Queen and his hood-wearing, bow-wielding alter ego as he tries to take back the troubled streets of his beloved Starling City from the corrupt leaders and drug thugs. He starts with
names listed in a small book that his father had given him before his death while floating on a raft after The Queen’s Gambit sank.
In his mission to clean the streets, Oliver is joined by his bodyguard John Diggle (David Ramsey) and a tech gal from his father’s company, Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards).
Every superhero has to have a love interest right? Oliver’s heart belongs to the lovely Laurel Lance (Katie Cassidy), but they struggle with their relationship as Oliver hides his secret identity from her.
Something else every superhero has?
A wicked origin story!
Arrow features flashbacks to Oliver’s time on the island where he goes from a whiny frat boy to the heroic Green Arrow. On the island, Oliver is guided by former Australian Secret Intelligence Service Agent Slade Wilson (Manu Bennett) and Yao Fei (Byron Mann). But
like every hero’s origin story, Oliver’s is tragic as Yao Fei is kidnapped by another threat on the island, and it’s up to Oliver and Slade Wilson to find and save him. Oliver believes that Fei is his key to getting off the island.
Arrow is currently in its second season, and is one of the hottest shows on television right now.
Created by Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim and Andrew Kreisberg. Willa Holland, Colin Donnell, John Barrowman, Paul Blackthorne and Colton Haynes also star. Arrow airs on Wednesday nights at 8 pm on the CW (KPLR 11).
If you want to catch up on the series, check out season 1 on Netflix and be ready for Season 3 in fall 2014.
