Students are told throughout college that an internship is essential to landing a job after graduation. There can be a lot of competition for the perfect internship, you cannot wait until April to apply. You need to apply for an internship by January at the latest. An internship can allow you to get your foot in the door even before graduation.
There are a few places to look for an internship that you may have overlooked such as Facebook. Almost every business operating today has a Facebook page and they might be looking for the best suited intern. Most businesses can be contacted by sending an email to their Facebook account.
I found my internship while I was chatting on Facebook. I had been searching for an internship for months using other sources but had no luck, until I got the idea to start searching the Facebook business pages and sending out emails asking if anyone was looking for an intern. I landed an internship the next day.
Another great place to look is LinkedIn because you can sign up and network with friends, family, and business professionals from all over the world. The more contacts you add, the more you increase your chances of finding the perfect internship. There are job listings and informative articles about job skills and the workforce.
Lastly, if you are a marketing major or are interested in marketing, there is the Market Research Association (MRA). They have two webpages, bluebook.org and greenbook.org. The Blue Book lists full service market research locations if you are looking for a job in marketing management or analysis. The Green Book lists mall intercept locations if you are looking for a job as an interviewer or managing an office in a mall or small office setting.
Using either the blue or green book, you can contact different locations by phone, fax, or email. You can learn more about the company and their service before you contact them. There are locations all over the world. It is easier than searching on the internet because all the information is on one website. They also offer job listings, informative articles, videos, webinars, certifications, and membership options.
When it comes to searching for an internship you need to know what websites and tools are available and how to make best use of them. Your dream internship might be one click away.
