On Thursday, April 25, 2019, McKendree University will be hosting their sixth annual Academic Excellence Day at the Lebanon, IL campus. The event will honor students and their achievements within the classroom. Students will present their creative and scholarly work to the McKendree community.
Student work includes presentations, research posters, and performances that they completed for a class that semester.
The McKendree speech team will usually take up a slot of time to perform their speeches. These programs can be viewed at the Holman Library, Ames Dining Hall, and the Piper Academic Center.
“I really enjoy this celebration; it is an opportunity to showcase what my students have been working on over the past year. It is one thing to work hard on a project for a grade; it is another to work hard on a project to showcase to your peers and professors,” said Public Relations professor Rich Murphy.
At the end of the day, McKendree will also host their annual Honors Convocation where several honor societies will induct new members into their organization. These honor societies include Phi Eta Sigma and Phi Kappa Phi.
At the closing ceremony, the winner of The United Methodist Exemplary Teaching Award in 2017, Terese Kasson, will present.
McKendree University is a nationally ranked, Methodist university. Founded by William McKendree in 1828, it is the oldest university in the state of Illinois, and it was first established as Lebanon Seminary. The title changed to McKendree College when William McKendree permitted the board of trustees to change the institution’s name. The institution offers a wide variety of undergraduate and graduate programs, boasting a mission statement of students with “enriched purpose, engagement with community, commitment to responsible citizenship, openness to new ideas and dedication to lifelong learning.”

Poster sessions will be held in Holman Library and Ames Dining Hall from 8:30am- 9:45am. You can vote for your favorite poster!
Powerpoint presentations will be held in PAC, the library and the choir room, starting at 10am with 10 minute breaks between each presentation to give the presenter enough time to set up the computer and presentation. The power point presentations will be over at 12:30 which gives you enough time to go to lunch before the Honors Convocations.
Honors Convocations Reception will be at 3pm at the Hett. From there on inductions will take place in different locations on campus such as the Hett, Bothwell Chapel, PAC and Old Main. Please check the program for AEC if you will be inducted into an Honor Society to check the time and room to make sure not to miss it!
