Sounds like something out of a Gothic novel, doesn’t it? Published April 1, 2011 Early on a Saturday morning, fourteen students from McKendree University were up and ready to embark on a trip to Chicago Illinois with the Campus Ministries. Although some students had an idea of what would take place on this five hour train ride, some only had a general idea that some sort of community service would be involved. (more…)

As of March 23, the confirmed death toll was 9,452. In addition to that, almost 15,000 people are still missing, and about 260,000 people are now homeless. The bad news doesn’t stop there. I take this weekly journey in order to see my family, because that is what the members of Alpha Phi Omega have already become to me- family. I cannot say that I was expecting it last semester when I pledged, before I realized that one of the main components of APO is friendship. (more…)

By Kyle Hintz, Staff Writer. Published April 1, 2011 Battle: Los Angeles is a terrible title. It seems terrible titles are a trend in Hollywood these days. This one foreshadows the disappointment that this movie will be to its patrons. Sadly, it actually starts out fairly decent. Staff Sgt. Nantz (Aaron Eckhart) is preparing to retire, an incident in Afghanistan is eluded to in which he got several soldiers killed or something to that effect, several young gung ho soldiers are introduced in effective, if clichéd sequences, and this movie starts to show more promise than that of its alien invasion B-movie plot. Cooper plays Eddie Morra, a struggling writer in New York City who isn’t fulfilling his potential, until he runs into his ex-wife’s brother, and former drug dealer, Vernon (Johnny Whitworth). Eddie tells Vernon about his writer’s block. Vernon has just the cure for Eddie’s troubles: NZT-48, a new drug that allows the user to access 100% of their brain. (more…)
