Sailor Moon Returns Better than Ever

BY KIMBERLY BENNETT Editor-in-Chief A few years ago, I wrote an article about the future plans of bringing back Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon (美少女戦士セーラームーン Bishōjo Senshi Sērā Mūn), a popular Japanese manga (graphic novel) series and anime (animated Japanese cartoon). If you are unfamiliar with the pop-culture phenomenon, Sailor Moon became more than just manga and anime; there was a live action (Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon) created in honor of the series as well as CDs, posters, plushies (stuffed dolls), key chains and other collectibles that were designed to please Sailor Moon fans around the world.  Naoko Takeuchi, the creator of the Sailor Moon manga series, first published her manga as a part of an anthological manga magazine with Nakayoshi in Dec. 1991. In Feb. 1997, the 52-chaptered m...

Welcome! The McKendree Review is starting something new this year; for the first time in forever, we will be publishing twice a month instead of only once a month. There will be an online issue published around the fifteenth of each month and a print and online issue published at the end of the month. Getting to Know You! Meet McKendree’s New Public Safety Officers

BY EMILY LUCIA Just in time for the new semester, Public Safety added two new members to their ranks. Lance Hunt and Brittney Newport join the 17, now 19 member staff, and both are very excited to begin their new journey. When asked why they chose to work for McKendree, Hunt and Newport had similar responses, commenting on how the university was close to home and very beautiful. “It definitely is a good college and you guys definitely have a good reputation out there and it looks like it’s a fun place to be a part of, whether you’re a student, faculty—just a fan of the sports teams,”  Newport said. “It kind of makes you feel like a family too,” Hunt added. Hunt, a retired firefighter, said he was interested in the idea of police work. Prior to being a firefighter, he said he had taken a f...

Ask the Editors!

ANSWERS: BY THE EDITORS Dear Editors, I am a first-year student at McKendree University and already know what I want to pursue as a career. The problem, is, I only have a certain amount of money saved up to attend college for four years; however, my program requires a minimum of five years with all of the general education courses we have to take in order to graduate. I understand these classes may be essential in some areas, but I do not understand why I would have to take a mathematics course when my major is in the arts. It’s a bit ridiculous. What do you suggest I do? Thanks, McKendree Newbie   Dear McKendree Newbie, As someone who has gone all over the place in regards to changing majors, I can assure you that these general education classes are required for a reason. They...
