It was a successful weekend in Bearcat athletics, from football hosting their first Saturday practice of the spring to men’s tennis climbing to an 8-game win streak. Here’s what happened this weekend, in case you missed any action:
This weekend, women’s bowling for the second consecutive season, is the champion of the GLVC conference. This also comes from back-to-back titles won in 2018 and 2019, with the tournament canceled in 2020, and winning last spring as well.
McKendree men’s tennis is moving up to 8-1 on the season and 6-0 at home, beating Rockhurst on Saturday and bumping the Hawks down to 5-4 on the season. This comes as men’s tennis captain Boriss Kamdem moves up to 52nd in the nation, per ITA Division II Men’s National Singles rankings. Their next games come on April 1 vs Washington University.
McKendree University’s men’s and women’s track and field programs competed at the Miner Invitational on Saturday at Missouri S&T. Both the men’s and women’s teams recorded four top five finishes to start their outdoor season.
McKendree University men’s volleyball won in four sets at home on Saturday night against Purdue-Fort Wayne. In four sets, the team posted:
Set #1 26-24 Win
Set #2 25-23 Loss
Set #3 25-21 Win
Set #4 25-16 Win
The Bearcats improved to 12-8 and 7-3 in MIVA conference play.
McKendree University softball split a GLVC doubleheader at McKendree on Saturday afternoon against William Jewell College. They are now 12-16 in the early portion of the season.
McKendree University baseball opened its weekend and GLVC play with a win over the 24th-ranked Drury Panthers. The Bearcats scored nine runs in five innings to push the team over the Panthers.
Overall, it has been a great start to many of our athletic teams’ seasons. We at the McKendree Review wish the best of luck to our Bearcats moving forward with their spring season!
