The “last blast” of the semester kicks off April 25-30 during the annual Spring Fling week. A number of events are scheduled, including a Commuter Student Car Show, comedian Mo Mandel, Big Prize Bingo, and festival activities and live music on Saturday from 1pm to 6pm. Spring Fling will conclude on Saturday night with the traditional foam dance party in the Lair Pit starting at 8:30pm.
Saturday will feature inflatables, contests, crafts and giveaways, a petting zoo, washers tournament, caricature artists and other activities on the campus quad, weather permitting. The event will also feature chicken wings contests, and live entertainment. The Smash Band will kick off the bands at 1pm. Additional acts are yet to be named.
Which local spot’s hot wings are the best? Purchase tickets to sample some and cast your vote for the People’s Choice Award at the third annual “Spring Fling Wing Thing.” Local restaurants will compete for the top honor and bragging rights. A number of “celebrity” judges will decide who will win the Bearcat Best Wing Award and the Most Creative Wing Award.
The second annual Wing Bobbing Contest will feature McKendree University students, faculty, and staff competitors who will bob for hot wings in a kid-size swimming pool filled with ranch dressing and chicken wings. The winning contestant must successfully retrieve the most wings from the pool and put them in their bucket – with their mouth, no hands — in less than three minutes. The winner gets a Spring Fling Wing Thing t-shirt, a $25 Buffalo Wild Wings Gift Card, $25 Hooters Gift Card, $25 Show-Me’s Gift Card and 2 Cardinals tickets! All other competitors will receive 2 Cardinals Tickets for participating.
