Much like The McKendree Review, McKendree University’s Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) is becoming more active. PBL has been around for many years at McKendree, but wants to become more involved on and off campus this semester.
Last semester, the group hosted a successful 5K, and is holding a trivia night in April to raise funds for members. This past month, the group attended the Winter Seminar Series at SWIC. The Series is held to prepare Southern Illinois’ PBL chapters for success at the State Leadership Conference on April 7-8. The conference gives students a chance to apply what they are learning in the classroom to the real world. Students also have the opportunity to network with important business leaders and fellow students.
The conference consists of a series of competitions and seminars that teach students important skills, such as finance and interview tips. This year’s conference includes a business tour of Tuscan Hills Winery in Effingham, Illinois. McKendree will be attending the State Leadership Conference in hopes of achieving stronger business and leadership skills through the competitions and seminars. The business fraternity promotes leadership, communication and teamwork. Members even receive discounts at select businesses.
Any student can benefit from PBL. “Most people think PBL is just for business majors, but we encourage all majors to join. Professionalism is important in all majors and careers.” said Rachel Ford, president of PBL.
McKendree PBL is always accepting new members. Not only is it a great resume builder, but it also prepares students for life after graduation. PBL members demonstrate the skills necessary to build resumes, perform during interviews and much more. PBL’s Liaison Officer Mindy Ritchey states, “Phi Beta Lambda has helped me professionally and socially on campus in more ways than one. I cannot wait to see the exciting places it takes me in the future!”
