Lebanon’s Witches’ Night Out: Halloween Fun on the Red Brick Street

Every year, a few days before Halloween, Witches’ Night Out is hosted in downtown Lebanon. The event showcases many local businesses and vendors. Patrons wear costumes and enjoy Halloween festivities. Witches’ Night Out 2023 Opening Ceremony This year, the night began with an opening ceremony on Brick Street. Organizers cast a spell, mixed potions, and announced the beginning of the night as the music started to play. Tricks, Treats, and Tours: Halloween at McKendree

Despite the freezing weather, they had great turnouts. Students braved the cold to dress up - and dress warm - for both events. The first event, McKendree’s Haunted Campus Tour, was hosted by McKendree’s History Club. This year marks its second annual occurrence. Spooky Sex: Sex Safety and Wellness Fair at McKendree

On Friday, October 29th, the third annual Spooky Sex fair was held at the Hettenhausen Center for the Arts. Spooky Sex, hosted by the Student Government Association and the Campus Activities Board, offered information and resources on sex, dating, testing, and protection. Tables offered informative games with prizes. Gifts like condoms, ribbons, and first aid kits were given out, and students could enter to win raffle prizes related to sexual health. McKendree Theatre Puts Hilarious Spin on Classic Tale

By Madison Rohn, Lead Editor Photos by Michelle Magnussen McKendree theatre’s fall play, Cinderella Waltz by Don Nigro, is a comedic and insightful retelling of the Cinderella fairy tale that will take the stage this weekend. The play breaks down the archetypes of the original fairy tale and shows them in a new way with plot twists and humor for adults. Cinderella Waltz focuses on Rosey Snow as she tries to make sense of her fairy tale world while putting up with her crazy stepmother, stepsisters, and father. All this happens as she encounters a prince, a troll, a possibly homicidal village idiot, and a fairy godmother who sings sailor songs. This event was reintroduced by current SGA President Maria Salomão two years ago and has been a huge success since. On this day, students from all around the world share their culture through their countries' recipes. This highly anticipated event was organized by Ana Cecilia Carvalho, the International Senator for McKendree’s Student Government Association. Mckendree staff was spook-ifying campus last week by dressing up their offices for Halloween as part of a decorating contest during homecoming week. The scariest offices chosen by the judges could win up to $100 in cash prizes. The contest consisted of 19 teams with over 66 staff members and students. Holman Library piqued my interest because it has so many resources for students. Students can check out a variety of items (not just books!). The library offers GoPros, laptops, Chromebooks, calculators, DVDs, Blu-rays, board games, miscellaneous cords, and textbooks. Depending on the type of item checked out, due dates will vary. Make sure to pay attention to when the items are due so you don’t get fined! Taking advantage of textbooks, laptops, and DVDs by borrowing them from the library can save you some money. It all started with a Snapchat story… In August of 2023, students began seeing menus posted to the McKendree group Snapchat story. Flyers appeared around campus and at apartments. These advertisements promised several home-cooked meals such as salmon, chicken and rice, and sushi. But what were these menus for? And who started it all? The menus were posted by a food delivery service called FreshEats: a brand new, completely student-run organization. It is managed by two students at McKendree, who work together to cook, advertise, and deliver the food.
