Bearcat at Barbenheimer

By: Madison Rohn, Editor Cover Image received from syfy.com This summer, I participated in the historical event that will go on to define 2023: Barbenheimer! Following the trends, I went with my friends and siblings to see Greta Gerwig’s Barbie and Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer back-to-back on the same day. Both movies were different from my go-to genres of science fiction and fantasy (The Lord of the Rings movies are my favorite), so I was excited to try something new.  We started at ten in the morning and went on the day after the movies premiered, so the theater was crowded and the busiest I had seen since COVID-19. I loved seeing all the people who were dressed up, especially all the pink or sparkly Barbie-inspired outfits. Since we were going to be at the theater for fi...

One Disney Fan’s Perspective on the Live Action Beauty and the Beast

By Allison Donofrio, Staff Writer For as long as I can remember, I’ve been a fan of Disney. When I was an infant, I cuddled with my Disney Babies blanket and a plush of Simba from The Lion King, which was given as a baby shower gift from my mom’s friend. I grew up watching Disney VHS tapes over and over. It was a coincidence that The Lion King was my favorite, along with Enchanted, Tangled, Meet the Robinson's and Beauty and the Beast. Growing up, Belle was my favorite Disney princess. She seemed confident, intelligent, and kind – everything I wanted to be when I grew up. I met her several times during trips to Walt Disney World, but met the Beast only once. I remember seeing the Beauty and the Beast stage show at MGM (now known as Hollywood Studios) several times. I loved the storyline...

Hidden Figures: A Film with History, Science and Female Empowerment

By Paxton Cohoon, Contributing Writer The film Hidden Figures was released on December 25, 2016 and has grossed $2.9 million from only 25 different locations since then. The weekend of its release, the film made $1 million more than estimated and beat out Rogue One by .8 million. Over the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday weekend, the film sold 20.5 million tickets in North American theaters. However, its success did not stop there. This film has been nominated for 63 awards and has won 26, one of which being the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by Cast in a Motion Picture. What makes this historical comedy-drama so popular is the inside scoops on how three African American female mathematicians helped one man orbit earth in the 1960s. These women were Katherine G. J...

The Rocky Horror Picture Show

BY ALLISON DONOFRIO Contributing Writer “Don’t dream it, be it” is a well-known phrase from one of my favorite movies: The Rocky Horror Picture Show. The cult classic has been moving strong since 1975 and it’s no surprise why! The classic has great music, an off-the-wall plot, and very dynamic characters! As of 2015, they are going to celebrate their 40th anniversary! The plot-line of the movie is perhaps one of the strangest yet most interesting plot-lines I have come across. The Rocky Horror Picture Show is more than just a movie. In fact, you can participate in showings where you see the movie in a theater at midnight. I could go on more about what happens there, but why spoil the fun? See for yourself! If you live on campus or near campus, there are several theaters you could attend! ...
