McKendree also holds the title of being the oldest university in the nation to have ties with the Methodist Church. However, this would not come as a big surprise to anyone who knows the past of this historic university. To those who are unaware, the university was founded by Methodist pioneers and was originally called Lebanon Seminary. Months on End: A Wonderful Play Put on by Our Peers

This play was called Months on End, and it was written by Craig Pospisil in 2002. This play covered the lives of eight young individuals over the course of a year and the struggles they face within their relationships, both familial and romantic. Some of the key relationships that the audience watched roll out were: Phoebe and Ben, two fiancees who have some lingering doubt about whether marriage is right for them, and Elaine and Walter, a couple unsure of what their future actions should be as Walter is currently divorcing his wife. A Treasure in Town: Willoughby Heritage Farm

With over 30 acres of wildlife preservation, the farm features animals, gardens, trails, and scenic overlooks. Driving through the suburban neighborhood, one has no idea that just a couple of turns and one-way streets will lead to a recreated vintage farm. From the beautiful 1940s-style garden established by the University of Illinois Extension Master Gardeners Program and maintained by volunteers, to the goats playing gleefully on the “Billy Goat Gruff Bridge,” to the 1930 Craftman-style farmhouse open to visitors, a day can be made at Willoughby Farms. If you’re aware of our creepy neighbor’s notoriety, your mind has likely drifted to the Old McPike Mansion – an abandoned and highly-supernatural locale where people can pay to spend the night. However, there are dozens of thoroughly haunted spots in the town beside the mansion. Tour company Alton Hauntings offers bus and walking tours to show small groups around these places late at night. There’s Cobblestone; there are the tailgates, but there isn’t much in the way of entertainment without making the haul to O’Fallon or another neighboring city off of highway 64. Now, this isn’t to take anything away from the Leb; we knew it was a small college town when we enrolled here and keeping a campus of college-aged young adults entertained is a task too great for any one city. Adventures of Frisbee Golf

By Daniel Kimmer, Contributing Writer Frisbee Golfing is a leisure inexpensive outdoor activity. A little overview about Frisbee Golf (Disc Golf or Frolf; street terms). Most courses are either a 9-hole course or an 18-hole course, depending on the land and space within the public park it was designed and built at. As a beginner to frisbee golf it is played like normal golf, there are T-Boxes and Fairways on each hole, “Greens” are non-existent in frisbee golf, as the basket location is the goal to get the frisbee to and the “hole” are metal chained baskets to catch the frisbee’s as they are thrown into the basket. No Pain, No Gain: Most Common Sports Injuries on Campus

By Madeline Cade, Contributing WriterWhile McKendree University has many great academic programs, we are mostly well-known for our participation in NCAA Division II athletics. Between the 33 teams on campus we hold many GLVC Conference titles and a few National Championships. These trophies do come at a slight cost: the physical and mental well-being of the athletes. Mental wellness aside, athletes are injured a lot of the time. Professor Gabriel Shapiro says, “It sometimes looks like Vietnam around here." You take one look out at campus and you will see walking boots, casts and slings scattered around.
