St. Louis Deemed Best City for New Grads, Lebanon Ranked Charming Small Town in IL

By: Chloe Gamber, Head Academic Writer Previously, Josie Blasdel, the director of Undergraduate Admissions, has given St. Louis some praise by sharing various articles. The first one I would like to discuss is how St. Louis is ranked 100/100 for being one of the best places for undergraduates to start their careers! “Since college grads tend to earn less earlier in their careers, an analysis by insurance provider Insurify ranked cities in the U.S. by employment opportunity and affordability, as well as transit costs and livability. Behind the Scenes: Bogey the Bearcat

By: Kristina Ferry Bogey the Bearcat has been the face of McKendree University since the 1960s. The mascot has evolved over the years from a simple bear mask to a full-fledged suit. This month I have sat down with the dance team’s coach and Bogey’s caretaker, Sara Miller, to delve into the behind-the-scenes of who Bogey is, what his schedule is like and what students adore about him. Without spoiling the magic, Miller has provided more about who has the opportunity to play Bogey. She revealed that the privilege of playing Bogey differs from year to year but this year he is played by two students. When asked about what she enjoys the most about teaching she said, “I love that I’m able to meet such a diverse group of students each semester. I remember one staff member used to have a map in her office that she would have students she worked with pin their hometowns on. It was such a great visual reminder that we work with students from all over—rural areas, major cities, various countries. For me, that has really pushed me as a teacher in the best way possible. Come and Join the Fun!

By: Marisa Ortega, Editor As a student of McKendree University most of us are involved in sports but always looking for something else to join. One group that you can become a part of is becoming a member of a Fraternity or a Sorority on campus. I had the opportunity to speak to members of a fraternity and sorority on campus to learn more about their community and what really goes on within them. When reaching out to fraternities I was given the chance to speak to Alpha Eta chapter(ADG) junior member Dylan Powell. ADG is a national fraternity on McKendree’s campus and has been active since August 2012. Currently there are 11 active chapters throughout the country at a variety of universities and colleges, including ADG’s sibling chapter Beta at St. Louis University just over the river....

Spectrum Alliance Presents: Drag Show

By Grace Gross, Head Culture Editor Photos taken and collect by Grace Gross McKendree University Spectrum Alliance sponsored a drag show at the Hett on Friday, April 8th. This event was open to students, faculty and the general public. There was a very good turnout! Ella Lehman, president of Spectrum Alliance, stated that 130 people attended the drag show. However, you may not actually know her. Kaylyn, or KK for short, is a middle child of four from Belleville, Illinois. She had been working at Mckendree for five years before deciding to attend classes. “I was hired in the 1828 Cafe to be a cashier," Ruiz said.
