But with the promise of “MCKENDREE STUDENTS ALL ARE WELCOME” and precisely zero friends, I thought I would take my chances. I was relieved to find that when Joseph House wrote “all are welcome” on their flier, they really meant it. Even though it was hosted by and within a church, the only mention of religion was when they asked my denomination when I signed in at the door. Following the trends, I went with my friends and siblings to see Greta Gerwig’s Barbie and Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer back-to-back on the same day. Both movies were different from my go-to genres of science fiction and fantasy (The Lord of the Rings movies are my favorite), so I was excited to try something new. 2023 Academic Excellence Celebration: 10 Years of Excellence

McKendree’s 10th annual Academic Excellence Celebration was held on Thursday, April 27th of 2023. Academic Excellence Celebration (AEC) is for students to present their scholarly and creative work to the McKendree community. No classes were held in honor of AEC, instead, students were expected to attend events. First, students presented their research in Holman Library. Next, there were student presentations that took place in Piper Academic Center (PAC). Following the presentations, many honors society inductions took place around campus. Video Game Music Will Help You Study

By: Kristina Ferry I have always loved video games. I have played them most of my life, and I cannot remember a time when I did not have a handheld console or controller in my hand. As you can see, my family has gathered a collection of video games, and these are just the ones we have on the Nintendo Wii. I have not played all these, but I have played most of them or watched my other family members play them. As a family, we have accumulated so many different consoles that it would be difficult to name them all, but for a short run down we have numerous Nintendo and PlayStation consoles, along with handheld consoles like the Nintendo DS and the Nintendo 3-DS. By: Viola Cipriani On Sunday, April 16th, McKendree’s Sport Event and Facilities Management students will host the annual charity race organized entirely by the sports management class body. 2023 marks the ninth year of a hands-on, experiential learning Sport Event & Facilities Management course that raises funds for a local nonprofit organization of the students’ choice.Developing, planning, executing, and evaluating this event helps Sport Management majors put their classroom learning to use and understand "real world" scenarios. Diversity Carnival

The carnival took place from 11 AM to 1 PM, originally supposed to be located in the campus quad outside of Ames Dining Hall. Unfortunately, it was raining during that time, so the carnival was moved to inside the Hettenhausen Center for the Arts. The Diversity Carnival was a hit! Women’s History Month Choir Concert

By: Elma Oijens Sjoelin It was not until college that I started reflecting on how I prepare for my soccer games. I never really had a standard routine, but when I came to McKendree, I met other student-athletes who knew exactly what they needed to do to prepare for competitions. I found it interesting how different everyone’s routines were, and after listening to and observing what my friends did to prepare for games, I was inspired to create a routine for myself. I quickly realized that what I did before my soccer games affected my performance, but I also realized that what worked for others did not always do the trick for me. Just kidding; they are all fine, but one host has taken charge of the cleaning duty. I, Elana, the host of “The Spooky History of McKendree,” have been clearing through the history of what the McKendree Radio room used to be. The spare room connected to the Radio room has been filled with cardboard boxes, used poster boards, craft supplies, random T-shirts, someone’s mail, health books, and much more for possibly a decade.
