On Thursday, May 2nd, therapy dogs greeted students on campus from 11:00 to 1:30. This event was organized by a group of students in Dr. Sara Frank’s Health Communication class. Students Aspen Duggar, Karin Tebelius, Elana Melzer, Elizabeth Collins, Hanna Parisio, and Felicity Crowell created the event as a part of their group project to create a campaign for McKendree’s Counseling Services. The students were in charge of advertising and obtaining permission for the dogs to be on campus. At the event, they passed out fliers for Counseling Services.

Melissa McHenry, the assistant director at McKendree’s Counseling Services, helped the group contact and book the therapy dogs.
The event was enjoyed by students and faculty alike.
President Dobbins even took on the challenge to hold six dogs at once!
The therapy dogs drew a crowd of students.
Students could spend one-on-one time with a dog to relieve stress.
The puppies showed off their little outfits.
The dogs were a huge hit on campus!
Thank you to everyone that came out to support the Counseling Services campaign.

Then on Friday, McKendree hosted another event from 12:00 to 4:00. This was the annual Spring Fling, during which numerous games and activities were available outside on the quad. These included an inflatable obstacle course, bungee run, and mechanical bull.

Students tried to not get bucked off the mechanical bull!
Students played volleyball, spikeball, and cornhole in the quad.
Tricycles were available to ride around campus!

Another main feature of the event was the free food. McKendree hosted a food truck and an ice cream truck in the circle drive all afternoon. Students received two tickets: one $9 voucher for the food truck and one for a free ice cream. The lines were long, but the food was worth the wait!

The petting zoo was a feature of Spring Fling.

The Spring Fling also featured the Rainbow Ranch Petting Zoo in the grass outside of Holman Library. A crowd quickly formed for the opportunity to pet a donkey, pony, sheep, goats, cows, llamas, and even a tortoise!

Isabella pets a fuzzy baby cow!
Shelly the tortoise!
Students could bottle-feed the baby cows!
Students were allowed to hold the baby goats and lambs as well.
Pedro the goat was the local celebrity on campus.
But Pedro would try to eat your hair if you held him.

This year’s Spring Fling was a success thanks to Campus Activities Board (CAB), the visiting food trucks, Rainbow Ranch Petting Zoo, and all of the students that attended. We hope you come back again next year!

The baby lambs and goats were soft and friendly.
What’s not to love about a llama?

Thank you to everyone that took pictures for these events! For more, check out McKendree’s social media pages and Counseling Services’ new Instagram page.
