This year’s student editors are excited to work on Catalyst, McKendree’s student-run undergraduate arts and literary magazine.
Catalyst is a way for students to be recognized for their art, short stories, poetry, and creative non-fiction. Catalyst gives students a chance to express their love for art and literature, which originated as a website in 2016, while Catalyst has been a printed magazine for over 30 years, starting in 1991.
Submissions for the 2025 Catalyst are due March 21st, so get your art in so the student editors can get to work! With each year comes new excitement and creative students.
A past contributor, Sonia Halabi, who read her poem at the Academic Excellence Celebration last year, talked about her experience, saying, “Presenting at AEC was a very beautiful feeling to share original work, creativity, and talent. As well as showcasing personality and learning more about how others express their personalities through their presentations.”
Get ready to put your work out there for everyone to see! Catalyst promotes student artistry and shares the love that we all have for literature and art. Whether you like to paint, draw, take photographs, or write literature, Catalyst is open to all students who want to speak through their creativity. Although there is a word limit of 1500 for literature print, there is none for the website.
Like last year, this year’s Catalyst will be introduced at McKendree’s Academic Excellence Celebration, where Catalyst has presented student work since its first year. Students can showcase their work with their friends, family, and the McKendree community.
Email your questions and submissions for Catalyst to our faculty advisor, Dr. Jenny Mueller: at jimueller@mckendree.edu. Make sure all art submitted is original work! Every submission from students will be considered and edited by the McKendree undergrad students working with Catalyst. When submitting for Catalyst, please leave your name out of the file so all submissions may be reviewed anonymously.
Without your stories, there is no Catalyst!
