Spring Cleaning for the McKendree Radio!

By: Elena Melzer, Podcaster

If you’ve been wondering where the hosts of the McKendree Radio have been, you will find them buried beneath the rubble in the McK Radio room. Just kidding; they are all fine, but one host has taken charge of the cleaning duty.

I, Elana, the host of “The Spooky History of McKendree,” have been clearing through the history of what the McKendree Radio room used to be. The spare room connected to the Radio room has been filled with cardboard boxes, used poster boards, craft supplies, random T-shirts, someone’s mail, health books, and much more for possibly a decade.

Mid-February I began the clean-up process but quickly became distracted by the random items I found. The McKendree Radio room used to be home to the Health Office, but they left unnecessary items behind when the office got relocated. Some items are undeniable reminiscences of the Health Office, like health books, “Wonders of Wellness” T-shirts, and “Got Milk” posters. But other items don’t seem like previous belongings of the Health Office, such as cardboard boxes, sand buckets, and ping pong balls. The room is a treasure chest of the most random things imaginable. There is even a bathroom if you need to go.

At this point, trash and recyclables have been removed from the room thanks to some help from Madison Rohn. Random books were put on shelves, a bag of unopened balloons was given to Dr. Trask-Frank, and I ran off with some sand buckets to build a sandcastle.

Unfortunately, the cleaning is nowhere near done. Mass-produced shirts, water bottles, and DVDs all without a purpose still line the room today. I did manage to shove it all into a corner, so I don’t have to look at it. A broken desk is one of the items I shoved aside to make room for the use of the functioning desk left behind. I cleaned up the desk and also added some left behind decorations to the walls to make the room a bit homier.

Once the weather gets warmer, watch out for me on the sand volleyball courts, building a sandcastle with my decade-old sand pails!
